Getting your own Domain Name.

Do I need one of those? What is it anyway?

A domain name is the main part of a URL. Huh? Ok, www.domainname.com. That's a URL. Uniform Resource Locator is the technical term for it. Basically it provides a means of Locating a Unique Resource on the Internet. Your website is unique, so it needs a unique name in order for someone to find it right? Easy really.

There are a number of parts to a URL. Lets take our example www.domainname.com. 'www' is the first part, technically called the 'Host' portion. 'domainname' is the second part, called the domain, and lastly '.com' is the ending referred to as the TLD or Top Level Domain. You don't really need ot know any of this in order to have a website or a domain, but I thought it may be interesting to some people :-)

Your visitors access your website by typing the URL into their web browser. 'mybh.net/YourCompany'. As you can see from the above explanation the domain is mybh (short for My Business Homepage, as you no doubt guessed), and .net is the TLD. We choose that because it is nice and short to type before your company name! Also there is no limit to the number of different 'Company Names' that can follow the domain name, this makes it quick and easy if you decide to change your company name for any reason!

Some of you may be wondering if you could have 'www.companyname.com' as your URL instead of mybh.net/CompanyName and the answer is yes! The only criterion is that it is unique, after all there isn't much point in a URL that isn't unique is there?

We will shortly be adding an automated section where you can choose a domain name, check it's unique and then buy it. Our system will then automatically link it to your website and you will have www.CompanyName.com as your URL.
